Steps to Transition, Academic, and Career Planning
The key to effective transition, academic, and career
planning is having accurate information about a person's interests,
aptitude, personality, work traits, skills,
abilities, experience, education, and other relevant career related
information.
Therefore, the first step is to use valid and
reliable assessments, surveys, and questionnaires to obtain accurate
information about the person that is essential to career success and
satisfaction.
2. Identify: The next step is to use the career related information about the person to identify suitable career or occupation options that fit the person.
3. Plan: With a career path identified, the next step is to design a plan be able to qualify for the identified career(s) or occupation(s), e.g., the required education, training, knowledge, skills, experience, etc.
4. Acquire: The next step is to implement the plan -- to acquire the necessary education, skills, etc. to qualify for the desired career.
5. Identify: After acquiring the qualifications required for the desired occupation, the next step is to identify employers with current job openings for that occupation
6. Choose: The final step is to accept the best job offer to achieve career success and satisfaction.
